Dying Rescue Beagle and His Wife Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Feb 25, 2020

I first met Rogers and Marge last summer when I photographed their June wedding in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Rogers came to Triangle Beagle Rescue after his rescue was flooded by Hurricane Florence in 2018. Shortly after arriving to the Triangle, he had to have his leg amputated due to an old injury. He was also diagnosed with heartworms and began the intense treatment needed to recover.

Rogers was also struggling with mysterious blood in his urine. He visited three different vets and all tests were either negative or inconclusive. After visiting his fourth vet at NC State Veterinary Hospital, doctors were confident Rogers had Transitional Cell Carcinoma in his urinary tract, a terminal illness.

The good news…

The good news…he was recently declared CANCER FREE! His kidneys though are continue to fail. So his foster mom decided to officially adopt him and mark another item off his bucket list of having a true home of his own.

Rogers and Marge live separately, but do get to visit each other often. Rogers wants to shower his love with a special Valentine’s Day date. So he surprised Marge with balloons and cake at Pharmacy Bottle and Beverage in downtown Cary.

The adorable couple attracted fans that started lining up on the sidewalk to take their photos and celebrate their love. Rogers was dressed to impress in a red plaid tie. His lady wore the collar they exchanged on their wedding day along with the heart sweater and white hair bow.

They enjoyed great conversation discussing their opinions on the Oscar winners, the Puppy Bowl and their favorite places to nap. They wrapped up their date with pupcakes. Marge dove in quickly. Rogers learned from the wedding that if he wanted to enjoy some cake, he better eat his quickly before his love would scoop in to nibble on his. What a pair!

Thank you Triangle Beagle Rescue for your great work! It was an honor to volunteer my time to capture these special memories for Rogers and Marge!
