Sweet Spencer crossed the rainbow bridge this past weekend.
He was a 14-year-old foster with Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. Spencer lost his home twice. The second time he was with his son that he had lived with for years. The son was adopted out and Spencer became very depressed and basically gave up on life. Wendy is a volunteer with the rescue and agreed to take him on in addition to her two other dogs, cats and other occasional fosters. She fell in love and decided at age 14 Spencer just needed one home to live out his days and she became his permanent foster home through the rescue. She says he quickly bonded with her two pups and started showing more energy and enthusiasm for life!
Spencer was such a sweetie during his session. He didn’t really sit or stay or want to allow us to move more than a few feet away from him which did make for some great silly close up shots.
After a final seizure this past weekend, he lost the use of his legs. The vet also found a neurological issue that was behind many of his health issues. It was time to say good-bye.
Wendy says, “He exemplified everything that a golden retriever should be. His smile and constant wagging tail – and his epic wrestling matches with his brothers – always made me smile and laugh. He was a happy spirit and such a clown. The land beyond the Rainbow Bridge is a better and happier place this morning because Spencer is there.”
