Sandy and Katie – older dogs, young hearts – Raleigh dog photography

Oct 16, 2012

Meet Joe, Jenna, Katie (Jack Russell), and Sandy (mini-dachshund). I love this little family of four!  Both dogs are  older rescues at eight and 11 years old. For one dog, her previous owners died, the other, her owner no longer wanted. When I asked Jenna about her family she said:  “My husband and I love our dogs for the companionship but mostly because they make us laugh every single day!  And that’s one huge reason why I love my husband – he has a fabulously sarcastic and self-deprecating sense of humor.”  I got my hopes up that because Katie was distinguished (aka…older) she would not quite be that stereotypical hyper Jack Russell. he he. Nice try. This girl has energy to boot, although she keeps it wrapped up with a prance and smile that is just so darn cute you don’t ever want her to stop bouncing around.  We kept her on the leash for the most part and Sandy (aka Sandy Pants) was pretty free to roam. She’s a mini wiener dog and can’t go too far too fast.  If I had to sum up the dogs’ personalities, it would be the very last photo. Yes, that big blur is Sandy trying to figure out where I hid my treat bag (because when I sat down she dove into it!)  They are curious, energetic and just so darn sweet.  And their people are just as sweet.  I love the look in Joe and Jenna’s eye when holding their pups.

I do have a confession to make. I am slightly obsessed with the photos from this shoot.  I keep staring at two photos that melt my heart and I want hanging on my wall: the one of Sandy in black and white with the sun peaking through her ear and the one of Katie looking up from the concrete steps as she stands between her daddy’s feet. Dear God…allow me to take photos like that every day. That’s the moment I want to catch with my camera.
