Farewell Mr. Bones – Raleigh pet photography

Jun 25, 2012

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I share this post with you.  Two weeks ago, my dear friend Lori found out her beagle of five years was diagnosed with lung and liver cancer.  He was having a coughing spell and she took him to the vet. They did a chest x-ray and the doctor came out and told her to rush to the NC State Veterinarian Hospital.  The prognosis was bad…an untreatable kind of cancer and an undetermined amount of time left.

Lori quickly contacted me about a pet portrait session to capture Mr. Bones at his best. We meet a few days later. Lori warned me that Bones would probably just find a nice place to sit and lie down. I was trying to come up with all kinds of creative ideas for our shots.  Well…Mr. Bones certainly kept me on my toes!  Literally. In true beagle fashion he was sniffing all over the place.  But he was a good boy and sat when we asked.  He has always had some knee trouble (which we now think is because of the cancer), so he limped a bit, but didn’t stop smiling or sniffing.

I instantly fell in love with Mr. Bones and could not be more honored that Lori asked me to document one of the greatest loves of her life.  It was only a week later that he left us.  I just heard yesterday that he crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge.  So here’s to you Mr. Bones!  May you have endless gardens, bushes and trails to sniff as you are out of pain.

Can you guess why he’s called Mr. Bones???
